Top ten tips for delivering an epic wedding toast

Updated: Mar 3

Your mission, if you should choose to accept it: deliver a toast to the newly married couple. The toast would usually happen when dinner is winding down and dancing will soon begin so you will be setting off the party. Sounds easy enough right? You know these people, you have at least one good story to share, this will be a piece of cake. Here’s a few tips to help you out as you prepare

10. Don’t try too hard to be the funniest most clever, just be natural

9. Face the couple and remember you’re just talking to your best friend/family, not an audience

8. Keep the mic close like an ice cream cone

7. Don’t make it too personal, leave some for the imagination

6. Use a relatable story that will make everyone laugh, not merely an ”inside joke”

5. Don’t end on a sour note, remember you didn‘t lose a friend you gained a family member

4. Keep it under 3 minutes

3. Speak from the heart, not from the notes in your phone

2. Prepare what you want to say ahead of time, don’t get up there and ramble

1. The mic drop at the end is never as cool as you thought it would be
